Crew of crashed Indonesian passenger jet ‘did not declare emergency

Written by on January 13, 2021

The crew of the Indonesian passenger jet did not declare an emergency or report technical problems before it crashed into the Jakarta-covered ocean last weekend.

So far, authorities have not been able to explain why the 26-year-old plane crashed four minutes after it took off, but they said they had traced the location of its black boxes.

According to National Transportation Safety Committee investigator Nurcahyo Utomo, the plane crew and air traffic control only discussed normal routine exchanges when it took off.

He said there was no suspicion or concern in the talks between the two sides even before the Sriwijaya Air Boeing 737-500 crashed shortly before it crashed into the Java Sea.

It was learned that 62 Indonesian passengers and crew were on board the crashed plane, including 10 children.
