After the Philippines failed to take home a medal in the Tokyo Paralympic Games, Philippine Paralympic Committee (PPC) president Mike Barredo now wants the country’s para-athletes to have their own facilities.
He said they used to see the Philsports Complex in Pasig City as a usable facility but the government made it a quarantine facility after the outbreak of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
As a result, the athletes who competed in the Paralympics were not able to train for a year.
Athletes are also said to be affected by the condition of COVID-19 in the area where they are training.
Even their preparation and actual participation in such sporting event is also affected.
Even before the Paralympics opened, there was a problem with athletes trying to get the country to pocket a medal.
