Fil-Canadian tennis player Leylah Fernandez has entered the semis of the US Open

Filipina-Canadian Leylah Fernandez has entered the semifinals of the US Open.

This was after beating fifth-seeded Elina Svitolina of Ukraine by a score of 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (5).

Fernandez defeated top seed players such as Naomi Osaka and Angelique Kerber in the first rounds of the tournament.

The 19-year-old Fernandez will next face whoever wins between Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus and Barbora Krejcikova of the Czech Republic.

The 19-year-old Fernandez is a representative of Canada whose father Jorge, a former Ecuadorian professional soccer player, is also his coach while his mother Irene is a Filipino Canadian.

Leylah is the second of three sisters
