Saliva test on COVID-19 is faster and cheaper – Sen. Gordon

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) is determined to approve the saliva test on the grounds that it is faster, easier and cheaper to find out if a person has COVID-19.
Last October, the PRC asked the Department of Health (DOH) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to allow the saliva testing method as a way to determine whether an individual is positive or negative for the deadly disease.
“We are expanding our testing services with a more affordable testing which is faster and less invasive. Our proposal is based on sound studies conducted and approved in other countries. These resultsarre based on tests conducted locally by PRC were presented to the DOH and the FDA, â€Âsaid PRC chairman Sen. Richard Gordon.
In such testing, human saliva is only needed and complaints caused by swabbing can be avoided.
He further explained that the medical worker who conducts the testing will not need extra protection other than the room temperature.
Because it is more economical and fast, more individuals can be tested and prevent the spread of Coronavirus.
