DepEd, issued an additional P3.7-B MOOE to schools in the country

The Department of Education (DepEd) has issued additional Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE) to all public schools nationwide.
The department said it aims to strengthen response measures amid the COVID-19 threat.
“We have to implement enabling fiscal policies to keep supporting our stakeholders in the field. We have to fight for it and we have to be conscious all of the time because we know that we have that kind of a challenge at hand, â€Âsaid Education Secretary Leonor Briones.
Up to P3.7 billion in additional funds allocated for MOOE will be distributed to 16 Regional Offices, 213 Division Offices, and 44,851 public schools nationwide.
Such funds will be used to strengthen the new normal set-up and implementation of health standards.
“This is for the supplies we buy for our teaching and non-teaching personnel who attend, there is also additional protection. Even if the children are not there and they do not go to school, our schools are still working and operating, â€Âsaid Undersecretary for Finance Annalyn Sevilla.
In preparation for the next academic school year, MOOE will be allocated for the protection of faculty and staff against COVID-19 while in service.
This will help to support DepEd Memorandum No. 39, s. 2020, which allows to use the regular allocation for MOOE and local funds in the implementation of measures in preparation and response to risks posed by COVID-19 released on March 12, 2020.
“Even though these issuances were last year, we still provide an additional funding source for our schools so they can prepare especially for the coming school year 2021-2022,” said Sevilla.
It said DepEd had already released the MOOE to the field units in early June and expected such funds to be fully utilized.
